Computed Tomography (CT) scanning uses specialized X-ray equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the body. Unlike general X-ray which creates a single image, CT is sensitive to subtle differences in body tissues and reconstructs a volume representation of the area examined using a thin X-ray beam.
Modern CT technology uses multiple scan slices to acquire the examination more rapidly and with great detail. This is a valuable medical tool that is helpful in diagnosing disease or trauma, planning and guiding interventional or therapeutic procedures, and monitoring the effectiveness of some therapies. Detailed post-examination processing can be created from the scan, including 3D reconstruction.
CT Angiography (CTA) refers to specialized CT exams to visualize and evaluate blood vessels. All CRA Medical Imaging locations perform these exams on multi-slice scanners.
Some CT examinations require you to drink a liquid (oral contrast) prior to your test to better define your bowel. You may also be required to receive an intravenous injection for better blood vessel and tissue definition. If you have renal dysfunction or specific medical conditions, the injection dose may be altered or omitted. In some cases of allergic history to this type of injection, pre-medication may be provided prior to the scan if the injection is necessary for accurate diagnosis.
All CRA Medical Imaging locations are accredited by the American College of Radiology to provide the highest quality of interpretation with attention to limiting radiation dose.
